What is Raw Baltic Amber?
Amber is often mistaken as a gemstone because it’s used in jewelry pieces. Amber is actually a fossilized tree resin, similar to tree sap that’s hardened over millions of years. Raw Baltic Amber refers to the Amber found on the shores of the Baltic Sea.
Raw Baltic Amber means the Amber has not been heated, treated, or altered in any way. Each piece of Baltic Amber from Mo + Lo Naturals is 100% genuine, lab-tested Raw Baltic Amber.
How can you tell if Baltic Amber is authentic?
Not all amber is created equally. At Mo + Lo Naturals we source the highest quality Baltic Amber directly from the source in Lithuania. With that, the simplest way to test if amber is authentic is using warm water and salt.
Mix 2 cups of warm water with a quarter cup of salt in a bowl. Stir until the salt has dissolved. Then, place the amber in the bowl. If the Amber floats to the top, it’s authentic.
How does it work?
Unlike most flea and tick products, Mo + Lo Naturals Baltic Amber gets better over time. It works in two ways to help prevent fleas and ticks:
- Electrostatic Energy - when the Baltic Amber rubs against your pet’s fur, it creates a static charge or energy. This creates an environment that’s hard for fleas, ticks, and other bugs to cling to your pet’s skin.
- Resinous Terpenes - as your pet wears their Mo + Lo Naturals collar, the Raw Baltic Amber begins to emit resinous terpenes or aroma that creates an unpleasant environment for fleas and ticks to stay on your pet. It’s often described as a piney smell. It’s undetectable to humans and does not bother pets.
How do I clean it?
To clean your collar, wipe the Baltic Amber down with a wet cloth.
The amber beads are starting to look polished and don't have the “raw” look anymore... Is it still working?
When your Raw Baltic Amber collar begins to take on a polished look, that means it’s losing its repelling properties. We recommend replacing your collar for the most effectiveness.
How long does it last?
As the Amber beads begin to appear polished and shiny, that typically means the outer layer of that creates the electrostatic energy and releases the resinous terpenes are diminishing. Depending on the coat of your dog or cat, this is around 2-9 months.
After that, you can repurpose your Baltic Amber pieces into something new!
How long does it take to work?
Results are typically seen within 1-3 weeks. During that time, we recommend using an alternative flea remedy so the Baltic Amber has enough time to activate.
Does Baltic Amber have any other therapeutic properties?
Yes! Baltic Amber has been around for millions and millions of years. It originates in Lithuania and is considered “Lithuanian Gold”. Aside from it looking great, Amber is used for a variety of remedies on both humans and pets. One therapeutic property of Amber is succinic acid. Succinic acid is a natural analgesic (pain reliever) and healing agent. As your pet wears the Amber, their body temperature will activate the succinic acid and it will be absorbed through the skin.
Why do the Baltic Amber pieces on the collar look different?
Each Mo + Lo Naturals collar is handmade from natural Baltic Amber. Since our Raw Baltic Amber is not altered in any way, each piece will have its own unique look and color and vary in shape and size.
Does it smell?
It does have a piney smell, however, most humans cannot detect the smell.
Is it sticky?
No, it is not sticky. The texture is similar to a stone.
Does it work for both long haired and short haired pets?
Yes, it does! Typically, pet's with shorter hair will see a quicker and longer effect.
My dog has a severe flea infestation… will this get rid of the fleas?
Chances are if you’re seeing fleas on your pets, they already have an infestation. Our Baltic Amber Collars are great to use as a preventative measure but they shouldn't be used as to treat an infestation.
We recommend giving your pet a bath with a medicated flea shampoo and using a flea comb to pick up remaining fleas. Please consult your veterinarian for the best solution for flea-infested pets.
Is it safe?
Yes, it’s safe for pets. It’s safe to use around children. Baltic Amber is naturally occurring and has virtually no negative side effects.
Can it be used on pregnant and/or nursing dogs and cats?
Yes, it’s completely safe to use on pregnant and nursing dogs and cats.
Can it be used on puppies or kittens?
You bet! It's chemical-free and is completely safe for puppies and kittens.
Can my dog go in the water with it on?
Your dog can splash away – the Baltic Amber is waterproof. Keep in mind the leather and stainless steel closures may change in the water.
Do you leave it on for walks?
Absolutely! For the best results, leave your Mo + Lo collar on as much as possible.
Can I attach my leash directly on the collar?
Although it’s constructed for durability, we do not recommend attaching your leash directly to your Amber collar. Think of your Amber collar as a necklace rather than a collar.
